White Oak Valley Farm Heirloom Seeds
It is with lots of thought, consideration, and discussion, that we have had to make the difficult decision to downsize our heirloom seed production and online sales.
Our farm has always been and always will be a small family business. All of the seeds we have offered were grown, harvested, packaged, and shipped by our family with little or no additional help. The 2015 and 2016 growing seasons were very difficult for us for many reasons. We lost a loved one in early 2015, and experienced an up to 80% crop loss both years due to a combination of repeated flooding in 2015 followed by flooding early in 2016 along with a record breaking drought for the remainder of the season. With our available seed stock very low and much uncertainty about production for the 2017 season, we assessed our options and ultimately came to the decision to make some changes to our farm. This decision did not come lightly, but ultimately we feel we are acting in the best interests of our family, of our customers, and in an effort to insure our farm's long-term sustainability.
As of 2017, we will no longer offer a printed seed catalog and will begin to downsize our online catalog starting in the fall of 2017. Instead of a focus on seed production, our farm will transition our focus to fresh vegetable and fruit production, both for our CSA program and for local farmers markets.
For the foreseeable future, we are still planning to grow some heirloom vegetables for seed production although on a much smaller scale than previously. The seeds we are able to produce will still be available at local area farmers markets as well as in our online store. Several varieties that we grow are very rare and not available from other seed companies and we feel responsible for continuing to produce and offer these varieties to our customers.
If you have questions about a specific variety or about the availability of some of our seeds, feel free to email us. We will keep the online store updated as much as possible with the quantity of seed available.
We would like to thank all of our customers who have been with us for so many years! Thanks for your continued support of our small family business and of heirloom seeds and true family farming!
